UNIVERSITY OF GHANA FOR GOLD AT TARKWA
The Cross Country team of University of Ghana will depart Accra for University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Tarkwa in the Western Region on Wednesday, 1st November, 2017 to compete in the 22nd Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Cross Country Competition from Thursday, 2nd to Sunday, 5th November, 2017.
The competition is organized under the distinguished patronage of Professor J.S.Y. Kuma, Vice-Chancellor of UMAT. Competing Universities are University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University for Development Studies (UDS), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER).
Preparation and Contingent- TEAM UG
The athletes representing the University were all drawn from the various Halls, who participated at this year’s UG Inter-Hall Cross Country held on 7th October, 2017. These men and women have gone through their pace and the necessary drills needed to win the trophy again after two years of trying. The 54th UG TOTAL Inter-Hall Athletics which ended on Friday, 27th October, 2017 served as an additional impetus for the athletes to fine tune their sharpness and readiness for the competition this week.
The Captain of the Team Laurent Gadoose, a final year student reading Social Work was hopeful of the team writing their name in gold at the end of the competition
“As a team we are ready for this competition. We are well conditioned, focused and determined to write our names in the good books of this University. We will continue to fight to reclaim the trophy we relinquished to UCC in 2015 at Winneba.”
Team UG Optimistic of Victory
Mr. William Akuka a well accomplished veteran in this competition and also the Cross Country Coach is pleased with his team. He averred that the team is young and full of potential and energy to make the University proud.
